Principal's Note

April 11, 2014

Dear Families,

Many thanks to the PTA for hosting the recent Craft and Book Fairs. These events could not have happened without all of our wonderful volunteers, including Craft Fair Chair Meryl Schwalb and Book Fair Chairs Nancy Rose Smith, Jen Middendorf, and Gail Truchard. I hope everyone was able to get some shopping done.

Thank you to the parents of grade 3-5 children for helping the children get a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast during testing time. The next round of testing will be the NYS Math Test for grades 3-5 from Wed, April 30 to Fri, May 2. Fourth graders will also be taking the NYS Science Written test on Mon, June 2 and the Performance Test on Wed, May 28. Once again, if your child is sick, please know that there are make-up days available.

The Bethlehem Board of Education continues to deliberate the budget decisions before them. Final decisions will be made at the next meeting to be held on Tuesday, April 22 in the High School Library Media Center. As always, please visit the district’s budget page for more details.

The week after vacation will be a very busy one for Glenmont students. Healthy Kids Week events will be taking place all week. In addition, we have children’s author Nancy Castaldo visiting with the children on Tuesday to talk about her non-fiction books, including one about keeping our Earth green, which is very timely given that that day also happens to be Earth Day. If the weather cooperates, the children will be getting fresh air that day as they help to clean up the school grounds with their classmates. There will also be a litterless lunch challenge to help educate our children about how we can help the environment. Finally, if you know of any families with kindergarteners coming next year, remind them that our Kindergarten Parent Orientation will take place on Wed, April 23 at 7:00 p.m.

I wish you a wonderful vacation week and happy holidays!
