“I look forward to not only being a school superintendent in Bethlehem, but also a member of this great community,” said Dr. Douglas. He is in the process of purchasing a home in Delmar, where he'll live with his wife, Lorian, and son, Carter.

Dr. Douglas is a veteran educator who has been superintendent of the Chenango Valley Central School District in Binghamton since 2009.  He was appointed superintendent at the September 27 meeting of the Board of Education after an exhaustive search.

In March, BC's current Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael Tebbano announced he would be retiring at the end of 2011. The Board of Education then appointed consultants from Capital Region BOCES to guide a comprehensive search process.

The Board received more than 40 applications for the position from around New York and across the country, and conducted first round interviews with 11 candidates. Of those, it selected three candidates to advance to interviews in late July and early August with district stakeholder groups representing parents, community members at large, students, teachers, support staff and administrators.

“I am immensely appreciative of the community’s involvement in my selection and I will strive to enhance and enrich the educational greatness that they have come to expect from the Bethlehem Central School District,” said Dr. Douglas.

Dr. Douglas graduated from Oswego High School in central New York, and holds a Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science degree in Technology Education from the SUNY Oswego in 1988 and 1991 respectively. He completed his Certificate of Advanced Study in School Administration/Supervision and School District Administration in 1995 from SUNY Brockport. In 2007, he earned a Doctorate of Education from the University of Rochester in Educational Leadership and Decision-making.

He has worked as an educator throughout New York State, including nine years as a principal in the Central Square Central School District north of Syracuse, and as a building-level administrator in the Geneva City School District. In Geneva, he served as the middle school assistant principal, high school assistant principal and regional summer school principal.

Dr. Douglas began his career as a technology education/industrial arts teacher in the Victor and Penfield Central School District in Rochester.
