A note from Mrs. Bonacquist

Dear Families,

It is hard to believe this is the final letter of the year! As we close the 13-14 school year, I would like to thank every one of you for supporting your child’s education by being an involved member of our school community. Slingerlands is a very special place and that is evident by the commitment our families make to our school. Our many events and activities including Carnival, reading buddies, library volunteers, school pictures, math and science night, 5th grade musical – just to name a few - are among the wonderful memories we create for our children. The events could never happen without your time and dedication!

Once again, I would like to thank our PTO co-presidents Jenean Taranto and Dana Burns who are stepping down. Jenean is headed off to the MS with Nick and Dana has one more year at Slingerlands.

Report cards will be posted on BC@Home on June 30. Teacher assignment information will be available starting in late August. Students moving into fifth grade will find out their math placement in September since we need to wait for NYS testing results so we can use that information as one piece of our placement decision-making.

The school district is changing to a new student management system called Aspen this summer. In August, you will be receiving information about how to access the new parent portal which will replace BC@Home. For now, consider printing out or saving to your computer any old report cards or other documents from BC@Home which you would like to save.

As we finish up the school year, we say goodbye to several staff members who will be retiring. Mrs. Pam Stewart has been a special education teacher for the past 35 years and we wish her well. Marilyn Valentini, who retired in February, completed her 42nd year. Chris Case and Cathy Hasselbach, classroom aides say goodbye after many years of service. Gary Powers, my Lead Custodian, is retiring after 42 years at BC! We appreciate the service and dedication these wonderful people have provided to the children and school.

The entire staff and faculty wishes every one of you a happy and relaxing summer!
