What is it?
Tutorial is a class that meets three times a week (twice a week next semester). During this period, students have the opportunity to see two or more EXCEL teachers for the fundamental purpose of getting additional academic support (e.g., preparing for a test, assistance with a project, help with organization). Additionally, each student has a mentor teacher who oversees his/her progress, including courses outside of EXCEL. Team-building activities and special projects are also part of the Tutorial curriculum. The primary goal of this class is to provide students with extra support to maximize success in the instructional program.
Eagle Elementary Partnership: During the course of the first semester, the students in Tutorial have had an opportunity to "give back" to their community. The students have been working with Mrs. Schrade's 3rd grade class, at Eagle Elementary, . The High School students travel over to Eagle Elementary during the Tutorial period and spend about 35 minutes with their 3rd grade "pals." The students help with activities varying from writing poetry to studying electrical circuits. Each High school student works with a small group, 5 or 6, of Mrs. Schrade's 3rd grade class, during each visit. Many of the students from the Tutorial group look forward to visiting their younger pals, and a majority of them have many great stories to report when they return. Before the December vacation, we returned the hospitality by hosting a holiday celebration for our younger friends. Above you'll find some pictures of this fun event. Stay tuned for updates on this partnership throughout the school year.
