Letter to BCHS families on arrest of club volunteer

Filed in District, District News by on March 12, 2018

The following message was sent to all BCHS families on Monday, March 12, 2018:

Dear BCHS parent/guardian:

The Bethlehem Police Department has informed the school district of the arrest of David B. Wood, of Delmar, on charges he had inappropriate sexual contact involving two minors. I am writing to you because Mr. Wood had been a volunteer with the Stage 700 theater club in its preparations for the upcoming spring musicalwhich involves a large number of students.

While the charges do not involve any suspected criminal activity on school property, I wanted you to have this information so you can discuss this matter with your child. Mr. Wood, who had spent time this year helping build sets for the musical, is no longer a volunteer with the theater ensemble.

The safety and well-being of our students in the Bethlehem Central School District is our highest priority. The district is working closely with the Bethlehem Police Department in its investigation of this matter and to ensure that there are no additional victims. School counselors are available for students who may want to discuss this matter further.

The district would like to thank the Bethlehem Police Department for its continued partnership in helping to ensure the safety and well-being of students, staff and families.

If you have questions regarding this matter, please feel free to contact me by phone at 518-439-7098 or by email at
