Advisory Group focuses on making positive connections
Character education is alive and well at the Middle School.
For the third year in a row, Patroon 7-1 has again initiated its Advisory Group Program. Advisory consists of small groups of students that will meet monthly throughout the year with an adult staff member to foster supportive and caring relationships among the students and their advisor.
The
first meeting was held on Thursday, Oct. 27, during lunch. The
students had a pizza lunch which they enjoyed within the small group
environment along with one of the adult advisors.
The relaxed small group atmosphere provided the students an
opportunity to interact with other students and to form new
friendships.
Activities following the lunch consisted of team building activities which focused on cooperation, communication, and problem solving skills. Future activities will focus on tolerance, conflict resolution skills, and bullying.
The
following staff members were facilitators of the advisory groups:
Linda Gellman (7th grade science), Nina Sher (7th grade world
language), Jeffrey Mongue (7th grade math), Steven Gigliello (7th
grade ELA), Matt Reis (7th grade social studies), Erin Robichaud
(7th grade special education), Trish Henning (7th grade Family and
Consumer Science), Laura Forman (7th grade art), Andrew Baker (House
Leader), Carla Young (guidance counselor - Patroon 7-1), and Kim
Panero (social worker).
The Advisory Program's goals coincides with the BCMS Character Education Mission which states:
“Bethlehem Central Middle School is a place where we teach and model
positive values in all aspects of our learning environment.
Students, staff, and parents strive to create an atmosphere of
belonging and responsibility where our differences are celebrated.
We respect and care for ourselves, each other, and our community."
