Six BCMS students attended the Sandra Morley Capital Zone Health and Physical Education Leadership Awards Ceremony on May 7 at Hudson Valley Community College. May 17 art auction at BCMS will help educate impoverished children
How can a child in India or Russia help a child to go to school in Uganda? By contributing art to the Global Coalition’s International Children’s Art Auction. Share wisdom, win prizes in May Maxim Challenge
Are you a BCMS student who has some words of wisdom or
advice that you could give to your fellow BCMS students? Your maxim could be
about character in general, being a good friend, manners, kindness, being
organized, keeping healthy, being safe, how to succeed in school… some kind of
advice that might help your peers in some way. Enter the May Maxim Challenge!
Your verse must have four lines, it must rhyme, and it must be original. You may
get a form from your homeroom teacher, or print one yourself
here [PDF].
Entries are due by the end of the school day on Friday, May 11. Prizes are in
the display case by the main office. All prizes were made possible through a
donation from a Bethlehem senior citizen who is a lover of poetry and a
supporter of public education.

How will BCMS students make the world a better place?

Students participate in NanoCareer Day
On March 7, 26 BCMS students and 3 BCHS students, participated in NanoCareer Day at the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering. They attended presentations on nanotechnology and learned about what kinds of career opportunities nanotech offers. The students took a tour of the complex, and engaged in a variety of activities that illustrated different aspects of nanoscale science and engineering. VIEW PHOTO GALLERY »
World Rally Talent Show Friday, March 16
The BCMS Helping Hands Club will hold its 4th annual World Rally Talent Show on Friday, March 16, from 6:45 - 9 p.m. There will be about 25 performances by middle school students and teachers. The purpose of the rally is to showcase student talent while promoting a better environment and planet. The admission cost is $5 or $4 plus one can of food. The food will be donated to the Bethlehem Food Pantry, while part of the proceeds will be donated to local and international charities. Something missing? Check the Lost and Found
The middle school lost
and found is full of "left behind" items including coats, sweatshirts, shorts,
water bottles, sneakers, etc. Twice annually we put out a reminder to
parents and students to check for their lost items. The lost and found
will be moved to the front foyer of the middle school for the week of February
13 through Friday, Feb. 24 (the last day of vacation). We encourage you to
check for lost items at this time. Items remaining after this date will be
donated to a local shelter. Please understand that this is for students to
be reunited with their own items. Please do not remove items which do not
belong to your child.
Odyssey of the Mind teams to conduct dress rehearsal

Grades 3-8 testing calendar announced
The New York State Education Department has increased
testing time, the number of questions asked and has added a day to the English
Language Arts exam in its revised 2012 Grades 3-8 English Language Arts and
Mathematics Testing Program, announced in late December.

Bethlehem Central Middle
School held its annual Spelling Bee Contest on Friday, Dec. 16.
Emily Risch was the winner of this year's BCMS Spelling Bee. Risch edged
out runner-up Jillian Monteleone by spelling the word "sequel."

Advisory Group focuses on making positive connections
For the third year in a row, Patroon 7-1 has again initiated its Advisory Group Program. Advisory consists of small groups of students that will meet monthly throughout the year with an adult staff member to foster supportive and caring relationships among the students and their advisor. BCMS participates in both the Price Chopper "Tools for Schools" program and the "Hannaford Helps Schools" programs here in our community. If you shop at PC, once you sign up, everything you purchase at Price Chopper with your AdvantEdge Card earns points to help our school earn points for free supplies or equipment. Hannaford distributes "school dollars" for purchasing selected items when you shop in their stores. These "dollars" can be dropped off in the main office for us to use to also purchase school equipment.
