National Honor Society changes

Filed in BCHS by on January 2, 2018

The following is a message from Principal Dave Doemel, Jr.

To be recognized for National Honor Society students must be exceptional in the categories of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

Traditionally, BCHS students have not been selected for this honor until the end of their senior year. The timing of this award means that it is not considered when our students are applying to colleges. Beginning this year we will be moving our selection process to junior year. In spring 2018, we will hold two ceremonies; one each for our current seniors and juniors. We believe this change is in the best interest of our students.

Please be aware there are instances in which students could be denied entry to National Honor Society if they have received a disciplinary referral in high school. For example, a student who received a referral for plagiarism in his or her freshman year could be denied during the selection process even if they are exceptional in all other areas.

Just as in years past the process will remain confidential and decisions made by the committee are final. In order for the selections to be unbiased and fair, we must maintain the integrity of the process we have in place.

If you have questions regarding National Honor Society please contact your student’s counselor.
