A group of BCHS students who study Spanish represented Bethlehem and the University in the High School Program as part of UAlbany’s Spanish Immersion Day on October 25. The group participated in a variety of activities such a Spanish Spelling Bee, interacting with native speakers from different countries and backgrounds, cultural competitions, exploring the uptown campus using clues and puzzles to be solved in Spanish, and took part in a tango lesson.

The University in the High School Program allows BCHS students in grades 11 and 12 to earn college credits through a partnership with UAlbany.

The trip to the Albany campus provided the students (many of whom are also part of the Spanish Honor Society–Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica) an opportunity to practice their language skills with high school students and teachers from different areas of New York State, as well as with members of the University’s Languages, Literature and Cultures Department.

Thank you to UAlbany professors Dora Ramirez, Ph.D. and Leonardo Correa, Ph.D., serving as BCHS and University in the High School liaisons.
