Thank you to guest advisor Mark Papuzza

The students in Business Education Teacher Kevin Fottrell’s Career and Finance class who are participating in the Stock Market Game have a guest advisor who is helping them navigate the markets as they seek to build a healthy investment portfolio. He is Mark Papuzza, a financial advisor from Empire Financial Advisors in Latham.

The Stock Market Game is an online simulation of the global capital markets designed to engage students in the world of economics, investing and personal finance and prepare them for financially independent futures.

Papuzza plans on working with the students until the course ends in February 2018. In addition to a shared interest in the stock market, Mr. Papuzza, a graduate of Siena College and Colonie Central High School, has something else in common with the BCHS students: he was also once a student of Mr. Fottrell.

“Mark was always a great student and always willing to help others,” said Mr. Fottrell, who taught Papuzza in high school and college. “I’m very pleased he could take time out of his busy schedule to flesh out topics such as price/earnings ratio with my students.”

Each team participating in The Stock Market Game is given a hypothetical portfolio of $100,000 which they can then invest in the stock, bond and mutual fund markets. The teams research stocks and other investments, and trade on a regular basis, competing with other teams to create a high-performing portfolio.

There are three BC student teams from Mr. Fottrell’s Career and Finance class participating in the Stock Market Game. They are:

  • Nathan Alexander
  • Trent Bickerstaff
