2019-20 BCSD Annual Goals

Prior to the start of the school year, district leaders, building principals and department supervisors develop a set of annual goals that helps guide teaching and learning in the Bethlehem Central Schools.

The following are goals that were outlined for the 2019-20 school year. These are shared with faculty and staff at the beginning of the school year, and reviewed and are updated mid-year. They are categorized by goal area. The four goal areas outlined in the 2019-24 Strategic Plan are Academics, Character, Community and Wellness.


Instructional and assessment practices that are aligned to a strong and relevant curriculum

  • Conduct five-year program reviews for Lab School, Art, World Languages and ENL and K-12 Library
  • Close the achievement gap among subgroups including students with disabilities and economically disadvantaged
  • Continue to implement a K-8 behavior and academic Response to Intervention (RtI) program
  • Integrate innovative, rigorous and engaging instructional technology throughout the K-12 educational program
  • Update secondary level homework and grading policies


Positive character traits are essential to becoming contributing members of society

  • Staff participate in professional development to better understand equity and cultural responsiveness for all
  • Incorporate programs to promote and inform students about school activities and programs
  • Develop more opportunities for participation in leadership and community service for students in grades 6-12


Strengthening family school and community partnerships through transparent communication

  • Collaborate with community partners to support and expand opportunities for students
  • Promote District highlights more frequently
  • Develop systems that improve outreach to and advocacy for families with limited resources and program awareness.
  • Improve/create opportunities for family mentoring programs to guide families through processes or assist with hardships
  • Provide workshop offerings and resources to support parents and community members on a variety of topics


Enhancing social-emotional wellness and balance for students and staff by supporting active, healthy lifestyles and promoting positive behavior

  • Implement the K-8 social and emotional learning curriculum
  • Provide staff PD to enhance their understanding of health and wellness
  • Implement a tiered system of supports to improve student and staff attendance.
  • Provide safety and security training for all staff and students
  • Implement sustainability initiatives
