Letter from Principal Bonacquist, Mar. 16

Filed in Slingerlands by on March 16, 2018

Dear Families,

March is a busy month at Slingerlands!

In spite of the weather – the show did go on!  Slingerlands celebrated its 48th musical with “Wish Upon a Star,” written and directed by Mr. Lester Betor. This year, all 85 of our 5th graders participated on stage or as part of the crew! What a wonderful experience for everyone! I am so grateful for the talent and dedication of Mr. Betor, Mrs. Clarkson and Mrs. O’Shea in making this such a wonderful experience for everyone.  The production cannot happen without the hard work and commitment of MANY people. A special thank you to Kerry Pilek and Nicole Heckman, who were the parent co-chairs of the musical this year.  They coordinated the work of many parents who worked behind the scenes to make this production so successful. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for us next year!

On March 23rd, we invite your children to participate in our Give and Go event.  Formerly called Drop and Shop, this is an event where you drop your child off at Slingerlands from 6-9pm to have an evening of fun with some of their teachers.  This year there will be a community service component to our evening. This event is the T in PTO.  Our teachers run the event and we donate the proceeds back to the school. We charge $10 for each child. We hope your children can join us for a fun-filled evening!  Click here for the sign up form

Our Spring Food Drive is underway. The food that is collected is used to support families in our community who might need assistance. There are boxes outside each classroom and in the lobby. Suggested donations are as follows:

  • Kindergarten Boxes of cereal (individual servings), boxes of individual packets of oatmeal or individual servings
  • Grade 1 Fruit cups, ramen noodles, granola bars, graham crackers in individual servings
  • Grade 2 Spaghetti-Os, canned macaroni dinners, Mac & Cheese (individual, microwavable packets)
  • Grade 3 Peanut butter and jelly (plastic containers), 100% juice boxes
  • Grade 4 Bottled water, microwave popcorn, pudding cups, individual Goldfish packets or individual cookie or cracker snack packs
  • Grade 5 Canned goods: tuna, soup, and dinners like chili and stew

Have a lucky weekend!!

Warmly,

Heidi
