Principal’s Letter

Filed in Slingerlands by on September 22, 2019

Dear Families,

What a wonderful week we had at Slingerlands!

Just a reminder that our Community Food Drive will continue until September 27th.  For more information click here.

This year we will have our Elementary Activities Fair on Monday, September 23rd at 6:30 at the HS.  It is a great opportunity to find out about the various activities in the Town of Bethlehem that are appropriate for elementary aged children.  It is also a great opportunity to advertise an activity that you are involved in such as Boy Scouts or ballet. For more information here is the link,

Join us for a talk from Dr. Randy Cale on parenting –

  • 9/24/2019, Glenmont Elementary, 9:30 a.m. – Why Kids Give Up Too Easily, Lack GRIT and Fail to Take Initiative

It is with great pride we are sharing an incredibly exciting upcoming event in our district!  Greg Tang, Jr., math guru and enthusiast, will be facilitating a Family Math Night on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, in the Bethlehem Central High School Cafeteria. Students at Slingerlands will also be working through “Tangy” activities and challenges during an assembly on October 2nd.  Our goal is to promote excitement for math while encouraging students to think critically and creatively. We are hoping you will join us on the night of October 1st  to experience first hand what all the excitement is about. Please visit the Tang Math Website to learn more.

If you are considering attending this special night, please complete this form so we have an idea of how many families to expect. All forms should be completed by Friday, September 27th.  In keeping with the spirit of Family Math Night, children must be accompanied by an adult.

Early Go Home Drill –Thursday  October 3rd

New York State requires all school districts to hold an annual “Go Home Early” drill to ensure that students and staff know what to do in case an emergency requires school grounds to be cleared and students to be transported home or to another location. The Bethlehem Central School District will conduct this drill on Thursday, Oct. 3. All students will be dismissed 15 minutes early – at 3:05.  We ask that you DO NOT pick up your child from school at dismissal that day. All children should ride the bus. This is a great opportunity for all children to take the bus they are assigned in the event of an emergency situation.

Forever Young Fun Run -Tuesday, October 8th

Join us for our first annual Forever Young, Fun Run on Tuesday, October 8th.  This event is in honor of the many years of service of our recently retired PE teacher, Mrs. Robin Young.  We want to promote running as a fun activity that all our students can participate in. The event will be held at the Track at the High School at 4pm.   You can meet us at the HS track at 4pm or there will be a bus to take children to the HS at the end of the day. If your child is going to take the bus, we ask that you arrive at 4pm to meet your child.  Look for the yellow permission slip that will come home early next week. Please sign and return to school by October 2nd.

Slingerlands Garden Club

This summer the Slingerlands Garden Club worked to plant lettuce and green beans.  Families helped water the garden during the summer. On Tuesday, Mrs. MacMillan’s & Mrs. Fitpatrick’s buddy classes harvested the vegetables. Wednesday morning, they were donated to the Bethlehem Town Hall Food Pantry. Thank you to the Slingerlands families who helped with the garden.  It couldn’t have been done without you!! This wonderful community service project helped our local families.
