Letter from Principal Heffernan, Dec. 13

Filed in Glenmont by on December 13, 2019

Dear Families,

Thank you to all who attended our Chris Porter Scholarship night last week!  Perhaps you saw the recent story in the Spotlight which explained how BCSD staff, especially at Eagle and Glenmont, were eager to honor the memory of teacher Chris Porter who died of a brain tumor. We are pleased to announce that thanks to the time, dedication, and donations from our Glenmont community, we have now reached the threshold of $30,000 that makes the scholarship self-sustaining for a graduating BCHS senior. Special thanks to Laurie Nolan, Beth Flanagan, and Cathy Zimmermann and all of our volunteers who made this possible.  What a wonderful reflection of our community spirit!

We were thrilled to celebrate our 2019 National Blue Ribbon School award with our students and staff during an assembly on Thursday. Take a moment to check out the photos on the website and Facebook. Congratulations to our student essay winners Kara D, Nick R, Luca F, Penelope W, Benjamin B, Jayden M, and Grace V who shared what they believe makes our school special. Every child took home a special Blue Ribbon pencil to remember this momentous occasion. We are so proud of our school.

Thanks goes to our Book Fair Chairs Linda Pauze, Taryn Raylinsky, and Jen Frick and all of the volunteers for organizing our recent Book Fair and event for grandparents and special friends. Thank you also to everyone who supported the sale which benefits our library and PTA.

Thank you also to all who contributed to our Caring and Sharing food drive!

Please take a moment to complete the district’s School Climate Survey. All families will be receiving an email with a link for your survey. Please click here to read more.

Next Friday we will be having the a capella group The Potsdam Pitches from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam perform for all of our students. In addition, they will be holding a masterclass with our fifth graders. We can’t wait to hear the music! Many thanks to our generous PTA for making this event possible for our students.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Laura  Heffernan
