Slingerlands students in grades K-2 got to enjoy a beautiful fall day and a lesson on fire safety on Thursday, Oct. 15, courtesy of the volunteer first responders from the Slingerlands Fire Department. The students had the chance to examine the different working parts of a fire truck, to see the equipment firefighters use and most importantly to be reminded of important fire safety tips that will keep both them and their families safe at home. These included:

  • Checking your home smoke detectors to make sure they are working and to change the batteries every six months;
  • Talking about your family’s exit route in an emergency; and
  • Remembering not to be afraid of a firefighter in full gear…they wear it to protect them and you.

Thank you, Slingerlands Fire Department!
