An important message for K-5 families regarding remote learning

An important reminder for K-5 families from Assistant Superintendent Dave Hurst

Dear BCSD Elementary Family:

As indicated in our school reopening plan, at the end of each quarter, families of elementary students can elect to have their students transition from the K-5 Virtual Learning Academy (VLA) to in-person instruction OR from in-person instruction to the VLA.

Monday, April 26, 2021 will be the final opportunity for these transitions to occur and the deadline to submit a request to make a change is Friday, April 2. The Virtual Learning Academy is the fully remote option that was established at the beginning of the 2020-21 school year for K-5 students to provide at-home learning all year long.  You can learn more about the K-5 Virtual Learning Academy here.

Families who are considering a CHANGE for their child beginning April 26 should read the following information carefully:

From Fully Remote (Virtual Learning  Academy) to In-Person

Parents/guardians wishing for their child(ren) to return to our in-person instruction model from the Virtual Learning Academy on April 26, 2021 must complete an Intent to Return to In-Person Learning Form for each student by Friday, April 2, 2021.

Please keep in mind that when families chose for their K-5 students to attend the Virtual Learning Academy at the beginning of the year, we adjusted the master schedules for teachers and students accordingly, allowing for social distancing in classrooms. As students transition back, elementary students may not be assigned to their home school so that these important health and safety protocols can continue to be followed districtwide.  Student building assignments cannot be made until after the April 2nd deadline as the final number of requests drives the decision-making process.

From In-Person to Fully Remote (K-5 Virtual Learning Academy)

Parents/guardians wishing for their child(ren) to change to the K-5 Virtual Learning Academy on April 26, 2021 must complete a  Remote Learning Waiver Form for each student by Friday, April 2, 2021. This change will be effective Monday, April 26, 2021.  Families of students who are already in the Virtual Learning Academy, and plan to remain in remote learning, do not need to fill out this waiver.

This is the final opportunity for students to transition to or from the Virtual Learning Academy.

Parents or guardians who have questions can email me directly at dhurst@bethlehemschools.org.

Sincerely,

Dave Hurst
