Congratulations to Bethlehem Central School District athletic director Len Kies for being named the region’s Athletic Director of the Year by the New York State Athletic Administrators Association (NYSAAA). The statewide organization honors one person from each region of the state as part of its annual awards ceremony. Kies will collect the award in March at the NYSAAA State Conference Roy O’Neill Awards Banquet.

Kies was singled out for the Athletic Director of the Year Award for his years of service to New York state interscholastic athletics, which include 16 years as an athletic director and 10 years as a coach, and for his commitment to professional development. Kies, who has been the Bethlehem AD for six years, was the first athletic director in Section 2 to hold the Certified Master Athletic Administrator (CMAA) credential.

In announcing the award, the NYSAAA leaders also cited Kies’ implementation of the Coaching Boys into Men mentoring program, the BC athletic program’s outstanding record of success on the field of play during the 2018-19 school year, and the School of Distinction award received by the high school from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) last year. The School of Distinction is awarded to schools where more than 90% of its varsity athletic teams have grade averages of 90% or higher.
