Author & Illustrator Jeff Mack paid a visit to Elsmere

Filed in Elsmere by on June 7, 2017

On Tuesday, June 6, Author/Illustrator Jeff Mack paid a visit to Elsmere Elementary where he presented to each of the grade levels.

In his presentations, Mack showed students the different ways he gathers inspiration for his stories. He explained the steps he takes, such as drawing his characters and then creating a problem for them to solve.

During the presentations, Mack had students join in on the illustration when he picked Murat Cicek, an Elsmere student in Grade 4, to draw a blob on the board which he followed by creating a character the students named Angry Bird.

Though Mack has published many of his own books, he didn’t start out that way. In fact, he started by illustrating other people’s books. Like the ones below:

  • The Icky Sticky Chameleon
  • Rub-a-Dub Sub
  • Starry Safari
  • Mr. Duck Means Business
  • If My Love Were a Fire Truck
  • Cindy Moo

Some of Mack’s own books include:

  • Good News Bad News
  • Clueless McGee
  • Hippo and Rabbit in Three Short Tales
  • The Things I Can Do
  • Hush Little Polar Bear
  • Frog and Fly in Six Slurpy Stories
  • Mine!
