Bethlehem Central High School senior Maggie Sui has been named a Semifinalist out of over 200,000 applicants for the 2019 class of the Coca-Cola Scholars Program.  She will be moving on to Phase 2 of the selection process with the hope of being selected as one of the 150 Coca-Cola Scholars who receive a $20,000 college scholarship.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Program scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. With the addition of the 2019 class, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation will have provided more than 6,150 Coke Scholars nationwide with over $69 million in scholarships over the course of 31 years.

Maggie is currently gearing up to submit the next portion of the application, which is due in early December, where she will include additional information on the extracurricular activities she participates in. Some of which include playing the violin, running indoor and outdoor track, and participating on BC’s Science Olympiad team. Maggie was also a part of the team that won the Regional Science Bowl in April 2018. In addition, she will need to complete several mini-essays, submit academic and professional recommendations, and provide transcripts.

She will be notified at the end of January if she is selected as one of the 250 Regional Finalists. If selected, Maggie will then need to participate in online or in-person interviews for the third and final phase of the application process.

As a Coca-Cola Scholar, she will be welcomed into a growing group of alumni that have been working towards creating positive change in the world. Recent events and initiatives include the 2018 Coca-Cola Scholars Leadership Summit, a post-hurricane clean-up in Houston, and the third year of a coaching program that partners seasoned alumni with first-year Scholars as they transition to college.

Way to go, Maggie!
