Nine teams from Bethlehem Central competed in the Odyssey of the Mind Region 7 competition on Saturday, March 2 at Shenendehowa High School. Four teams took home first place trophies and three teams earned second place. Six teams will move on to compete at the New York State competition at Binghamton University on Saturday, March 23.

Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem-solving competition involving students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. This year’s problems included:

  • designing a ride-on vehicle that could fit in a suitcase;
  • building a mechanical camouflaged creature;
  • reimagining the works of Leonardo da Vinci;
  • testing the strength of a team-built balsa wood structure;
  • and showing how disagreements can distract us from the bigger picture.

Teams worked all year to solve their chosen problem by writing scripts, making costumes, and building sets and props.

Visit this link to learn more about the problems our teams were challenged to solve this year.

BC Odyssey is a parent-run program. If you are interested in learning more or starting a team at your school next year, contact Rebecca Beiter, district Odyssey coordinator:

Congratulations to all of our BC teams on a job well done!
