After winning the regional tournament in March, five students representing Bethlehem Central High School went on an all-expenses paid trip to the nation’s capital for the 2018 National Science Bowl held on April 25-29.

The National Science Bowl® (NSB) is a highly competitive science education and academic event among teams of high school and middle school students who compete in a fast-paced verbal forum to solve technical problems and answer questions in all areas of science and math.

The Science Bowl team included Liam Karl, Talia Sanders, Maggie Sui, Kevin Sui and Connor Chung. The team was accompanied by their coach, Paul O’Reilly.

During the trip, the team made friends with teams from Puerto Rico and Wyoming, got to meet Secretary of Energy Rick Perry (see photo) and watched as a BC graduate, Dr. Ray Newell, presented on cyber security.

Though the team only won two out of seven games in the round robin, Coach O’Reilly said he couldn’t be prouder of the team.
“They worked really hard and were great sports,” said O’Reilly.  “I was very proud of how well they represented our school.”
Congratulations to the team and Coach O’Reilly!
