BCHS fall sports suspended while school is remote

Filed in District, District News by on October 26, 2020

In accordance with guidelines set by the New York State Department of Health (DOH) and the New York State Public High School Athletics Association (NYSPHSAA), all fall interscholastic sports at Bethlehem Central High School are suspended temporarily while the school is closed for in-person instruction. The high school has switched to full remote instruction for at least a week, Oct. 26-30, following an uptick in COVID-19 cases and widespread quarantine.

The DOH guidance can be found on page four of the NYSPHSAA Return to Interscholastic Sports document released on Sept. 20, 2020. The guidance states, “If school is closed for in-person education during the school year due to an increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases, school-sponsored sports must be suspended until in-person education is resumed.”

Any decisions about extending remote learning and resuming interscholastic sports will be made later this week, in consultation with local public health officials.
