BCHS Science Olympiad team wins regional championship

A team of students from Bethlehem Central High School has won the 2021 Capital District Regional Science Olympiad Tournament. This year’s tournament was held online on Saturday, March 27. The Bethlehem “A” team defeated reigning regional champion Columbia High School to become the region’s top Science Olympiad team. Fourteen teams competed in the regional tournament.

The Bethlehem A-Team will advance to the Science Olympiad State Finals to be held on Saturday, April 10. At states, these students will compete against other top teams in STEM areas such as astronomy, biology, chemistry, engineering, and mathematics. The state competition will also be held virtually this year due to Covid.

The A-Team medaled in all 15 events, including six gold medals and six silver medals.

At the regional tournament, the Bethlehem High School B-Team also completed very well, finishing in 7th place, while earning medals in 6 events. The team was led by seniors Danielle Huli and Rachael Close. The Science Olympiad teams are coached by BCHS science teacher Shawn Mowry.
