BCHS senior is a Cap Rep winning playwright

Filed in Archive by on May 9, 2017

Eden Weinstein, a senior at BCHS, was named a winner of the Capital Repertory Theater’s Young Playwright Competition. Eden’s winning play, “Familiar Faces,” will be performed at Cap Rep August 10-13 along with five other winning entries. A reception will be held August 11 honoring the playwrights. In addition, the winning young playwrights will spend several days over the course of the spring in workshops with a professional playwright.

The rules of the competition designated that entries had to be an original short play conceived of and written by the entrant. The contest was open to teenagers who live within a 90 mile radius of the theater, which is located in downtown Albany.

As a new addition to the competition this year, before selecting the winning entries, Cap Rep held a staged reading with professional actors for the ten plays they had selected as finalists. The reading was open to the public, and audience members were invited to submit written feedback about each play, to be compiled and shared with the playwrights.

Congratulations, Eden!
