BCMS presents Frozen JR. on stage Jan. 16-19

The enchanting story of Frozen JR. is taking the stage by (snow)storm at BCMS…

Step into the kingdom of Arendelle as the Bethlehem Central Middle School (BCMS) presents Frozen JR. January 16 through January 19, 2020.

A cast and crew of more than 140 students are preparing to bring the story of Frozen to the stage. Frozen JR. is based on the Disney film written by Jennifer Lee and directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee. The music and lyrics are by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. The original Broadway production of Frozen was directed by Michael Grandage and produced by Disney Theatrical Productions.

A story of true love and acceptance between sisters, Frozen JR. tells the journey of Princesses Anna and Elsa. When faced with danger, the two sisters discover their hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood. With the cast of beloved characters including mountain man Kristoff, reindeer Sven, snowman Olaf and mystical hidden folk, the story is loaded with magic, adventure and plenty of humor. Frozen JR. is sure to thaw even the coldest heart.

The show opens on Thursday, January 16, 2020, at the Bethlehem Middle School, 332 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar.

The performance schedule is as follows:

  • Thursday, January 16 at 7 p.m.
  • Friday, January 17 at 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, January 18 at 2 p.m.
  • Saturday, January 18 at 7 p.m.
  • Sunday, January 19 at 2 p.m.

Three different students perform the parts of Anna and Elsa as they age throughout the production. Young Anna is played by sixth-grader Ella Moffre. Teen Anna is played by seventh-grader Madeline Ward. Older Anna seventh-grader Ellie Pokabla. Young Elsa is played by sixth-grader Molly Kirby. Teen Elsa is played by seventh-grader Catherine Dellenbaugh. Older Elsa is played by eighth-grader Piper Doolen. Kristoff is played by eighth-grader Benjamin Laderas. Olaf is played by eighth-grader Molly Kantrowitz.

“We are thrilled to be bringing Frozen Jr. to BCMS with all of its beloved characters,” said Director and Choreographer Lindsay Dashew. “Our student cast of 74 has been rehearsing tirelessly since October to bring this story to life. With another 70 students working behinds the scenes, we have some really neat tricks in store for our audiences! Don’t wait to buy your tickets, because the show is sure to sell out!”

Bethlehem Central High School music teacher Jason Dashew serves as the musical director and BCMS music teacher Katie Daly serves at the technical director for the production.

Frozen JR. runs approximately 90 minutes including intermission.

The production includes students performing on stage, as well as students running a behind the scenes crew that provides assistance in areas including wardrobe, props, hair and makeup, sound and lighting, and set design as well as ushers for each performance.

Advance ticket sales will take place at Bethlehem Central Middle School on Wednesday, January 8 from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, January 11 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for students/seniors/BCMS faculty & staff.
