The following letter was emailed to all Bethlehem Central Middle School parents from Superintendent Jody Monroe

January 25, 2017

Dear Parent/Guardian:

I am writing to inform you that a middle school technology teacher, Mr. Steven Costopoulos, was placed on administrative leave today. Mr. Costopoulos teaches seventh and eighth grade students at the school.

This action stems from complaints received this morning about an odor in Mr. Costopoulos’s classroom. The odor in the classroom was reported to BCMS Interim Principal David Doemel who took immediate action to investigate the matter.

Upon investigation, a small quantity of marijuana and a pipe were found in Mr. Costopoulos’s coat. The Bethlehem Police Department was contacted immediately and Mr. Costopoulos was issued an appearance ticket for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation.

Families of students in Mr. Costopoulos’ classes have been notified by Interim Principal Doemel.

The district’s number one priority is the health and safety of our students. I am sharing this information with you to give you the opportunity to discuss this issue with your child. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me by email at jmonroe@bcsd.neric.org or by phone at 518-439-7098 or contact Mr. Doemel directly.

Sincerely,

Jody Monroe
Superintendent of Schools
