Bethlehem Central Middle School will participate in Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 4.

Bethlehem Middle School students and families, supported by the Bethlehem Bicycle & Pedestrian Committee, will join schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Day, which emphasizes the importance of increasing physical activity, pedestrian and bicycle safety, and a healthy environment.

Students are encouraged to walk or bike to school. If possible wear bright and/or reflective clothing (or Bethlehem orange spirit wear!).

When walking, remember to:

  • walk on sidewalks if available,
  • use crosswalks whenever possible, and
  • walk on the LEFT hand side of the road facing traffic if no sidewalks are available.

When biking:

  • wear a helmet,
  • ride on the RIGHT side of the road, and
  • always stop and watch for traffic when entering roadway (starting at your own driveway).

Parents, please ensure all bikers (including yourselves) are wearing helmets since the event is about safety awareness. Please review Roll Model safety information below.

Greeters will distribute stickers/goodies for kids who walk or ride to the middle school on that day.  Every student who arrives at school other than riding in a car or bus, will be entered into a drawing for gift cards to local businesses.  Winners will be announced over the end of day announcements.

Roll Model Pledge

The Town of Bethlehem invites residents to make a commitment to support all forms of transportation in our town. The Town’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee is asking students, parents and community members to take the Roll Model Pledge to help us realize our vision of a walkable and bikeable community.

You can download and sign the Roll Model Pledge here.
