At its August 8 meeting, the Bethlehem Central Board of Education is expected to officially appoint Sarah Flannery as the middle school’s new Committee on Special Education (CSE) Chair. Flannery, who has over 15 years of experience in special education, began working with the middle school in late July.

The CSE Chair is responsible for day-to-day management and CSE functions, including oversight and monitoring of special education activities, and coordinates all meetings and student evaluations. Additionally, the CSE Chair will help develop regular communication with parents and families of students.

“I am excited to join the team here in Bethlehem Central,” said Flannery. “I am prepared and confident in my abilities to act in a role where I am able to advocate for the needs of students and their families.”

Flannery previously worked as a Special Education Teacher at East Greenbush Central School District, where she has worked since 2002. During her time at East Greenbush, Flannery also served in multiple leadership roles such as a Curriculum Coordinator and an EGTA Building Representative.

“Throughout my career as a special education teacher,” said Flannery. “I have worked tirelessly on behalf of students to ensure that they have had access to the curriculum and educational opportunities that they deserved.”

Flannery’s official appointment will be effective August 8, 2018.
