Celebrating Dr. Seuss

Filed in Archive by on March 6, 2020

In what has become an annual tradition at Slingerlands, the Cat in the Hat dropped by Slingerlands Elementary School on Monday, March 2 to celebrate the 115th birthday of Theodor Geisel, known better as beloved writer and illustrator Dr. Seuss! The Cat was accompanied by Thing 1 and Thing 2 (fifth graders Olivia Miller and Sarah Barbato) who did a phenomenal job reading to the school’s youngest students. Older students at the school also got a visit from the literary gang and took part in a Dr. Seuss trivia contest.

This was the 20th year Principal Heidi Bonacquist shared her love of Seuss by dressing up as the Cat. It will be the last year in the red-and-white-striped hat for Principal Bonacquist, who has announced she will be retiring at the end of the school year.

Thank you, Mrs. Bonacquist, for making Dr. Seuss’s birthday memorable for the students at Slingerlands.
