BCSD Covid Screening for Students

Filed in Archive by on January 12, 2020

All Bethlehem Central School District families whose child(ren) is enrolled in in-person or hybrid learning is required to fill out a daily screening for their students that must be completed every morning before school.

Families of students who have chosen fully virtual learning will not receive the daily survey. However, families of students in grades 7-12 who will be attending school on an alternating “A” and “B” day schedule will be asked to complete the survey every day as a way to ensure this important health and safety screening becomes a routine part of your day.

What does the screening include?

The student health screening includes the following:

  • A request that parents take their child/ren’s temperature each morning prior to coming to school. Anyone with a temperature of 100.0F or higher should not come to school.

The form also includes (these areas are already pre-filled):

  • Student name
  • Building
  • Grade
  • Date
  • Guardian name

Parents will then respond yes or no to three screening questions for their children:

  1. Does your child currently have (or has had in the last 10 days) one of these new or worsening symptoms?
    • Fever (100.0F or higher) chills or sweating
    • Cough
    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • Fatigue
    • Muscle or body aches
    • Headache
    • New loss of taste or smell
    • Sore throat
    • Congestion or runny nose
    • Nausea or vomiting
    • Diarrhea
  2. Does your child live with an immediate household member who is experiencing new or worsening symptoms as noted in Q1?
  3. In the past 10 days, has your child been tested for COVID-19?
  4. Has your child been designated a contact of a person who tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days?
  5. In the last 14 days, has your child traveled internationally or to any state outside of NY (other than CT, MA, NJ, PA, or VT?)

Families will then submit the form. Based on the answers submitted, students will either get a “thumbs up” and will be able to come to school. A “thumbs down” means that that a student will be required to stay home. Families should report their child’s absence to the school attendance office and contact the school nurse.

How will I receive the BCSD Covid Survey?

Every day, an email will be sent in the overnight hours to a child’s parents/guardians who are listed in Aspen. The screening survey only needs to be filled out by one parent/guardian for each child every day. A reminder email will also be sent before school to families of students who have not completed the survey so it can be completed before the school day begins.

If you have more than one child in the Bethlehem Central School District, there will be a link for each child. You will need to complete an individual survey for each child every day.

The email will look like this:
