Jean Walsh, a longtime support staff employee in the Bethlehem Central School District, passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, Sept. 23. Walsh was a bus attendant in the Transportation Department. She worked on several routes over the years, ensuring that students of all ages arrived at school and returned home safely every day.
Walsh had been an employee of the school district for 22 years. In addition to working as a bus attendant, she had served as a noon aide from time to time, helping fill staffing needs where they would arise.
“Jean was a dedicated employee who was best known for making the well-being of BC students her priority and her purpose,” said Superintendent Jody Monroe. “She colorfully brightened the days of the students she worked with, and also those of her fellow employees. Jean was good-natured and brought exuberance to every day. She will be deeply missed by both students and staff.”
District counselors are available for students or staff who need assistance in processing this loss. Additional resources for families who want to discuss this loss with their children at home can be found here.
Jean Walsh is survived by a daughter and several close friends. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. at the Elmwood Cemetery, Rt. 9W Selkirk. Messages of support for family and friends can be shared here.
