Doors at BCMS to open at 7:30 a.m. daily

An important message from BCMS Principal Mike Klugman for families of students in grades 6-8:

To better ensure the safety of students and staff in the morning, the doors of the middle school will remain locked until 7:30 a.m. on school days. This change will take effect on Monday, Sept. 23, 2019. Students should not be dropped off before 7:30 a.m. The first bell rings at 8 a.m.

“Our number one priority is the safety and well-being of students and staff,” said Principal Klugman. “Having our doors open earlier than 7:30 a.m. presents a challenge for the limited staff who are in the building before that time to monitor who may be coming in and out. It is a safety concern that is easily addressed by keeping all doors locked until 7:30.”

Principal Klugman said faculty and staff will continue to be able to access the building with their ID cards before doors open at 7:30 a.m. He said the new security measure will also help the main office staff in its use of the visitor management system known as Raptor, which was introduced at the end of the 2018-19 school year to create a more secure school environment.

“It takes the cooperation of everyone to keep our school building and grounds a safe place to learn and a safe place to work,” said Principal Klugman. “We appreciate families taking note of this change and helping us make this transition a seamless one.”
