Eagle PTO March Madness Extreme

Filed in Archive by on March 2, 2017

As we March into reading for Read Across America we are reading and turning those minutes into donations for our playground.

View our flyer here or read below for all the information. Use the form to track reading minutes.

Be sure to check the fun additions for achieving the reading/donation goals. The flyers were also sent home and new reading logs will come home each week.

March Madness Extreme

Each March we celebrate Read Across America at Eagle Elementary by holding a friendly school-wide competition to read the highest number of minutes in March! Research proves that the more children read at home the greater their reading success will be throughout their school years and life.

From March 3rd through March 29th, your child will be tracking his or her at home reading minutes on the sheet provided. Please submit your weekly tracking sheet on Friday mornings. A new tracking sheet will be sent home each Friday. Please bring in your last tracking form on Thursday March 30th so we can tally up the winners before the assembly. Your first tracking form is on the back side of this sheet.

  • Please help your child tally the minutes (not hours) read each week and sign the form before sending it back to school each Friday morning. This will save us time each week as we add up the total minutes for the entire school.
  • At the end of each week one class from each grade level with the highest number of minutes will be eligible to win a BONUS 30 MINUTE PE CLASS. The winning class will be chosen at an assembly on March 30th. As an added incentive each class will be paired up with a NCAA basketball team during March Madness. Classes will be awarded bonus points based on their team’s performance.
  • And lastly, in celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, we want to express our love of reading with Crazy Hat Day, Thursday, March 2nd. Please have your child wear a crazy hat to school that day to kick off the competition.

How your reading can help build our playground

  1. You read like you always do … but focusing on reading even more each night for the month of March.
  2. Log onto and set up your page. ****Our goal is for all grade K-2 students read 20-30 minutes a night and 3-5 students read at least 30-40 minutes per night.*****
  3. Step 2 – find your page (don’t need to set up – students will be preloaded)
  4. Pledges can be made online or you can send checks to school made payable to Eagle PTO. All donations must be submitted by March 31st to be included in Read-A-Thon.
  5. With the guidance of your parent, invite family members and friends to pledge a donation in your name supporting your monthly reading goal.
