Feb. 3: Precautionary lockout at BCMS lifted; expect bus delays

Filed in District, District News by on February 3, 2021

Feb. 3, 3:10p:

Bethlehem Central Middle School is currently in a lockout and dismissal is delayed temporarily. The lockout was in response to information from the Bethlehem Police Department of a threat of violence in the neighborhood. There was no direct threat made to the middle school, however, the police are investigating the threat and are currently searching the area.

This is NOT a lockdown situation, but a lockout. In a lockout, all exterior doors are secured, all students and staff who may be outside the building are brought inside the building. There is no disruption to students and all activity goes on as usual inside the building. In the case of the delayed dismissal, students are being asked to work on homework.

Feb. 3, 3:30p:

The lockout at the middle school and the delayed dismissal will delay elementary bus dismissal as well. More information will be shared as it becomes available.

The precautionary lockout at the middle school has been lifted and all BCMS students have been dismissed. The police department determined there was no imminent threat in the neighborhood, however, out of an abundance of caution BCMS walkers will be taking the bus home. There will be a delay in their drop-off times.

Also, there will be a bus delay for elementary students as a result of the late middle school dismissal.
