Their teachers are friends and now they are too. Ushering in a first-of-its-kind Friends Through Music program, Courtney Richmond, a music teacher at Hamagrael, along with her former colleague, Genevieve Diller, a music teacher in the Albany City School District, recently introduced a music-based pen pal program that helps students sharpen writing skills, foster their interest in music and make new friends.

For several months, the Hamagrael third graders traded letters with students at Arbor Hill Elementary School and Philip Schuyler Elementary, writing about what they were learning in music class and about their interests outside of school.

The highlight of the Friends Through Music program was a joint concert at Hamagrael on June 13 where the pen pals sang together and entertained parents and teachers with the sounds of recorders and kazoos.

Bravo to all!
