On Wednesday, November 14, Glenmont Elementary School held a “Hoop Shoot & More” event to raise money for a scholarship fund for Chris Porter.  Chris Porter was a long-time BCSD elementary teacher who died of brain cancer last year. A new scholarship for graduating BCHS seniors has been created in her name.
Glenmont, current and past, faculty and staff came together with family members of staff, alums, parents, parent alums, students, and community members for this amazing fundraiser which included a hoop shoot, minute-to-win-it games, a 50/50 raffle, a bake sale, and a silent auction.  We are pleased to announce that we raised $6102.30!  All of this money will go directly to the scholarship fund.
Many thanks to everyone who donated auction baskets, baked goods, and their time and energy. Special thanks go to teachers Laurie Nolan and Beth Flanagan for all of their work putting this event together.  Congratulations to Hoop Shoot winners Ben F, Nick R, Ava and Ryan S, and Thomas P.  Chris’ mother was present to pull the winning ticket of the 50/50 prize which belonged to the Porter family’s longtime neighbor, Sandra Bruni.  Sandra also happens to be the mother of Chris’ life-long friend Karen Fitzgerald.
Our Glenmont School spirit was shining brightly in this tribute to Chris.  Thank you, Glenmont!
