Gmail Distribution Groups

Distribution groups are now live in Gmail: (Click here to view current groups)

Distribution groups are divided into four permission levels:

  • D1 – District level groups – District-wide groups which Members are not allowed to post (send) messages. Only members of the unrestricted group may post messages. The Tech Department manages these groups. Ex. BroadCastToAllStaff, AllBCSDFaculty, Everyone.
  • D2 – Building level groups – Building groups which contain all faculty, staff, and student groups. Members are allowed to post (send) messages within their respected groups. The Tech Department manages these groups. Ex. AllGlenmontStaff, EagleFaculty, BCMSStudents
  • D3 – Department, Sub-Building, Committee level groups – Groups in which members are allowed to post (send) messages within their respected groups. Assigned users manage these groups. Group managers can add and remove users at will. Ex. Dep_Sci (Science Dept.), Dept_Trans (Transportation Dept.)
  • D4 – Clubs, sports teams, Student level groups – Groups in which anybody in the domain can join, and anybody is allowed to post (send) messages. These groups can be managed or moderated upon request.

Please put in a helpdesk ticket if you would like a distribution group created. The minimum for any distribution group is 15 users.

  • Permission level:
  • Manager: (Can be more than one)
  • Does it need be moderated? (Emails need to be approved by a manager before being sent to the group)
