New York State requires all school districts to hold an annual “Go Home Early” drill to ensure that students and staff know what to do in case an emergency requires school grounds to be cleared and students to be transported home or to another location.

The Bethlehem Central School District will conduct this drill on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018.

All Schools will dismiss 15 minutes earlier than their regular dismissal that day and there will be no late buses for the Middle School and High School. Students who walk or ride a bicycle to school are required to take the bus home on the day of the drill. We ask parents NOT to pick their child up on this day, unless it is for an appointment. In the event of a real emergency, where access to the school or travel on roads might be restricted, your student will be better prepared by going through the drill on October 4 and riding a bus home.

Dismissal and departure times are as follows:

School  Regular dismissal time  Regular  departure time  October 4  dismissal time  October 4  departure time*
Eagle Elementary  3:20 p.m.  3:25 p.m.  3:05 p.m.  3:10 p.m.

*Note: Departure times are estimated. Actual bus departure times may be a few minutes later for some buses.

Please read the following procedures in order to plan with your children for the day of the drill. All students, with the few exceptions outlined below, must leave their building and board their assigned buses to be transported home.

  • All elementary students have an assigned bus route, which is available to parents on Aspen.
  • Students who live within the BCHS and BCMS walking zones have been assigned an emergency bus route, which they will take home on October 4. The schools will provide this information to students and families prior to the drill so that students know which bus to board.
  • Students will not be permitted to take a bus other than their assigned bus to another location, such as a friend’s house.
  • BCHS students who drive will be allowed to leave with their vehicles.
  • School’s Out will be held at its regular locations on this day. Students will assemble at a designated area outside the building upon dismissal and then re-enter for the program.
  • No other student will remain at school unless the school receives a note from a parent explaining that they will be picked up at the regular dismissal time.
  • No clubs, athletic games or practices or other extracurricular activities/events will be held immediately following school. Students who have athletic contests or practices will have to leave the building at dismissal but may return once they are accompanied by a coach. Coaches will inform athletes of a meeting space outside of the building and any additional procedures for that day.
  • Evening activities will take place as planned

If you have questions, please contact your child’s school.
