Elementary parents to see changes to report cards, conferences

Filed in Archive by on November 4, 2016

In an effort to increase communication with parents at the elementary level, reports from classroom teachers will increase to four times this year, beginning with the release of a new 10-week student progress report on Thursday, November 10.

The November reports, which will include teacher comments as well as student “work habit” and “self-management” information will be posted to Aspen. Parents will be notified by email on Thursday when the reports are available on Aspen

The Standards Based Report Cards, which will be issued in January and June, will continue to look similar to those introduced two years ago, but will be condensed to make them easier to understand. In April, parents will also receive a 10-week progress report.

Also, in response to feedback from a parent survey conducted during the 2015-16 school year, the half-day conference schedule, which in recent years had been scheduled during five half-days throughout the school year, has been condensed to three half-days in January. Parent conferences will be held during the afternoons of January 25-27, 2017.

“We had more than 1,400 parents complete our survey. We looked at those responses and found ways to address some common concerns,” said Assistant Superintendent for Educational Programs David Hurst. “We hope elementary families will be pleased with the new reporting system being unveiled this month and with the streamlined conference schedule. We look forward to continuing to work together with parents as partners in our students’ education.”
