Important: School Bus Evacuation Drill is Sept. 14

Filed in District by on September 10, 2018

On Friday, September 14, 2018, the school will hold its first bus evacuation drill of the school year.

Each school year, the Bethlehem Central School District, in compliance with New York State Education Law, holds three such drills. All students must take part in these drills, even if they don’t ride a school bus on a daily basis.

When the school buses arrive that morning, each bus driver gives his/her riders a brief explanation of bus safety rules and regulations. Afterwards, the students are shown ways to exit the bus safely in the event of an emergency and then they go directly into the school building.

Students who attend School’s In, walk, or are driven to school on the day of the drill will line up in front of the building and will fill in empty seats on buses as they arrive. Parents are encouraged to review this information with their children prior to the morning of the drill so that they know what to expect. Children who do not arrive by school bus should be dressed with the weather mind, as they will wait outside until they are assigned to a bus.

In addition, we would be most appreciative if all students arriving on foot or by car plan to arrive between 9:00-9:05 a.m. so as not to interrupt a drill already in progress. If possible, we strongly encourage students to arrive by bus on the day of the drill.

Thank you.
