Dear Juniors and Parents:

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) will be tentatively administered at Bethlehem Central High School on Tuesday, January 26, 2021.

As you know, the traditional Oct. PSAT test at BCHS was cancelled due to Covid related concerns. This year, the College Board is offering a 2nd test date on Tuesday, January 26th. The exam will start at 8:15a and end at approximately 12:15p. All students in grades 9-12 will be attending classes remotely on the 26th. Juniors who opt to take the PSAT’s will not be required to attend their normal classes.

Buses will be provided for those who need transportation. For students who need transportation, please complete this google form so we can determine transportation needs in an efficient manner

All juniors planning to apply for college admission should take this test. The PSAT is a shortened version of the SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) and serves as a preview for students taking the test. Typically, juniors take the SAT once in the spring of eleventh grade and again in the fall of grade twelve. The PSAT is also used for the National Merit Scholarship competition. Nationwide, the top 50,000 scores put students in a select group qualifying them either as semi-finalists or commended students. Some students win college scholarships in this competition.

To register for the PSAT’s, go to and click on the “Log In” tab. The deadline to register is January 15th and the cost is $30. After registering, students can stop by the Counseling Center to pick up a PSAT Student Guide booklet containing a complete practice test and more information about the exam. For social distancing purposes, a maximum of 75 students will be allowed in each testing area. There will be a late fee of $15 for registration after the deadline date of Friday, January 15th. Late registration deadline is Friday, January 22nd.

Sophomores will NOT be allowed to take the exam this year due to space constraints.

On test day, Tuesday, January 26th, 2021, students should report to the following area:

  • Last names A-H – Cafeteria
  • Last names I-P – Gym A
  • Last names Q-Z – Gym B

Each student should bring the following:

  • Sharpened #2 pencils
  • Photo ID
  • Calculator (any scientific, four-function or graphing calculator will be allowed)

If you have any questions, please contact the Counseling Center at 439-4921. Sincerely, Scott Carlton School Counselor, PSAT Coordinator
