Letter from Principal Bonacquist, Mar. 13

Filed in Slingerlands by on March 13, 2020

Dear Families,

By now, you have received many informative emails regarding the COVID-19/Coronavirus from the Superintendent, Jody Monroe. As you know from the media, the information is unfolding quickly and we are working hard to stay on top of it.  Our #1 priority is the safety and well-being of our students.

Important information for you to know:

  • In order to allow our faculty and staff to prepare for a possible school closure there will be NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS on Monday, March 16, 2020. Instead, the district will be holding its Superintendent’s Conference Day on Monday to provide faculty and staff time and preparation for alternative learning opportunities for students should a school closure become necessary. The Conference Day had originally been scheduled for Friday, March 20. This means that as of right now, Friday, Mar. 20 will be a regular school day.

Consistent with the state’s effort to restrict large gatherings, please note the following that will go into effect in our school district on Friday, March 13, at 4:00 p.m. until further notice:

  • All use of school buildings by outside groups will be discontinued, with the exception of Schools Out.
  • Continuing Education programs will be suspended.
  • The following School//PTO activities are CANCELLED, including:
    • District Choral Festival
    • Give and Go
    • Camp Fair
    • Wax Museum
    • PTO meetings
    • Field Trips (until further notice)
  • In order to keep our school as safe as possible, only children and staff members will be allowed in the school.  Until further notice, other people will not be allowed in school:
    • Guests to classrooms
    • Classroom volunteers
    • Reading buddies
    • Mystery readers
    • classroom volunteers
    • No birthday treats/visits
    • You cannot join your child for lunch
  • If you pick your child up at dismissal, you will sign them out on the clipboard and wait outside. We will ensure kindergarteners go directly to the person picking them up.

  • We WILL still have band, orchestra and intramurals before school as scheduled.

Children’s Book Drive

Between now and the end of March, we will be collecting gently used books to donate to Grassroot Givers.  The books should be in very good condition and geared towards preschool through young teens. Please no adult books.

Virtual Backpack: A site which will have copies of forms and flyers that are sent home, and information about upcoming events.  Public With Parents 2019-2020
