Letter from Principal Bonacquist, Oct. 16

Filed in Slingerlands by on October 16, 2020

Dear Families,

What a busy week!!!

Important Information:

October is Fire Safety Month

Yesterday we had the Slingerlands Fire Department visit for our primary students.  The children in grades K-2 had a visit to the truck to learn about fire safety and see the truck.  It was great to be able to do this traditional event. Check out these pictures!

Virtual Fun Run

I think the strange weather we had last week prevented some of you from being able to complete your Fun Run.  We are extending this until next Friday, October  23. If you take pictures – please send these to

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Once again, Slingerlands will be participating in the Making Strides for Breast Cancer campaign with a loose change collection.  This year we will be teaming up with Real Kids Wear Pink for this important event.

Real Kids Wear Pink brings together schools, sports teams, clubs, and organizations for the fight against breast cancer. Carli O’Hara launched Real Kids in Albany, NY in 2017 with the goal of engaging other students in fundraising and philanthropy around this important cause. The 11-year-old knew that when kids come together, great things can happen! Since then, the Real Kids movement has given kids the chance to become leaders in the fight by providing a platform to raise funds and awareness – including wearing PINK on Friday, October 23rd, the official 2020 Real Kids Wear Pink Day.

The collection will end Friday, October 23rd. Thank you for your support.

Parent Teacher Conferences

We will still be having teacher conferences this year – they will be virtual. Your child’s teacher will be in touch with you about setting up a date and time. The dates for early dismissal are:

November 19 – 11:45

December 4 – 11:45

December 9 – 11:45

IMPORTANT November 19 is the first of three scheduled half-day Teacher Conference days for elementary schools. For THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 19, you are asked to complete this form so we know what your child will be doing at dismissal. Dismissal is scheduled for 11:45am. NO LUNCH will be served. Please complete a separate form for each child. Additional information will be sent out regarding what time cars can enter the parking lot.

School Pictures –

We won’t have our traditional school pictures with Adirondack Pictures this year as we cannot have any visitors in the school.  The PTO is working with a local photographer to take pictures on a weekend.  The pictures will be outside, in front of the school.  Click here for more information!

COVID Tracker

Please remember to complete this each morning for each of your children. This needs to be completed everyday, EVEN if your child is home sick or is in quarantine.  If you haven’t completed it, we will be giving you a reminder email.

Cars can enter the parking lot at 9:00.  We will begin letting cars through as soon as the buses are done, which is about 9:15.  If you are running a little late and do not see any staff member still out in the back, you may have to park and walk your child up to the door and ring the bell.

Dismissal –

Parents will be allowed in the parking lot at 2:55.  When the weather turns bad, we will likely back this time up again to as early as 2:45.

Walkers / Bike Riders –

Bikers and walkers will be released at 3:15.

If it rains and your child will NOT be walking/riding, please contact the office and let us know.

Playground – The BC Playgrounds are still not available for public use.  This includes right after school and on the weekends.

It looks like another gorgeous weekend! Enjoy!
