Letter from Principal Bonacquist, Oct. 2

Filed in Slingerlands by on October 2, 2020

Dear Families,

I have to tell you how impressed I am with the children here at Slingerlands!  WOW!!!  They are rolling with our new way of doing things with very few hiccups!  Every day I see happy children engaged and excited about learning and school!  They are doing a great job with the masks and socially distancing while at the same time participating in learning and socializing with friends!  Our teachers are doing a phenomenal job providing fun, captivating learning experiences.  It is fun to see how creative they are!!

Important Information:

Cars can enter the parking lot at 9:00.  We will begin letting cars through as soon as the buses are done, which is about 9:15.  If you are running a little late and do not see any staff member still out in the back, you may have to park and walk your child up to the door and ring the bell.

Dismissal is going GREAT!  We can now eek out a little more instructional time by delaying dismissal by 5 minutes. Starting on Monday, October 5th, parents will be allowed in the parking lot at 2:55.  When the weather turns bad, we will likely back this time up again.

Walkers / Bike Riders –

Bikers and walkers will be released at 3:15.

If it rains and your child will NOT be walking/riding, please contact the office and let us know.

Playground – The BC Playgrounds are still not available for public use.  This includes right after school and on the weekends.

Virtual Fun Run

We can still have this great event!  Make it a family activity – run, walk – whatever works for you!  So far we have 85 kids signed up for the Fun Run! This is a school-wide event which includes virtual learners. If you already signed up, your child received a bib today.  If they sign up over the weekend, we will get it to them on Monday.  You can run anytime between now and October 9th.  Color the bib and then pin it on and run!    If you take pictures – please send these to SlingerlandsPTO@gmail.comSign up here!

School Pictures –

We won’t have our traditional school pictures with Adirondack Pictures this year as we cannot have any visitors in the school.  The PTO is working with a local photographer to take pictures on a weekend.  The pictures will be outside, in front of the school.  More information to come!

Early Go Home Drill

Each year we are required by SED to conduct an Early Go Home Drill.  This is to ensure that all children know what bus to take home in the event of an emergency.  This year many children are walking or being picked up by a parent and we are NOT conducting this drill.  If we did need to send children home early all the children in School’s Out, walkers, or those being picked up by a parent would board a bus and be taken to a location to be picked up by a parent.  This information would then be communicated to you.  For more information- click here.

Please remember to complete this each morning for each of your children.  If you haven’t completed it, we will be giving you a reminder email.

It looks like another gorgeous weekend! Enjoy!
