Letter from Principal Kloss, Dec. 6

Filed in Elsmere by on December 6, 2019

Dear Elsmere Families,

Happy beginning of the end of 2019. Can you believe we are nearly a third of the way into this school year already? I hope it has been fun and productive for you.

Congratulations to our terrific CAPER readers who presented last night:  Emily Faller, Holden Kent, Jonathan Patterson, Liam Cromling, Maya LaFountain, and Matthew Balbuena and sensational announcers Elliot Chapman and Andrew Faller.  Our next CAPER is February 4 and a reading sign up will be sent out in January. Whether your child reads to a large crowd or just at home, please keep reading, reading, reading. Literacy opens countless doors of enjoyment and success, and the way to get better at reading is by reading more.

A few special notes regarding the sudden arrival of winter:

  • Students go outside for fresh air during their recess every day, except when it is bitterly cold or raining. Winter wear is required for playing in the snow: including snow pants and snow boots. Please call our school nurse, Jean Isenberg, if you need assistance getting these for your child.
  • Please LABEL all of your child’s winter wear! Our lost and found is full already.
  • With high snow banks and sometimes delayed clearing of sidewalks on town roads, the safest way for your child to get to and from school is the school bus. BCSD provides transportation for every elementary student.

As we enter into the holiday season, I thank all of you for the spirit of generosity that you exhibit all year round. From participating in our holiday food drive, sending in extra Halloween candy, Reading for Ronald, to sending in gently used baby clothing and coats for others in need, the small kindnesses shown here at Elsmere are so beautiful. At a time of year when “getting” is often on the minds of children, Elsmere parents can be very proud of the generosity their kids show. In the words of Mohammed, “A person’s true wealth is the good (s)he does in the world.”

Enjoy a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Kate Kloss
