Letter from Principal Kloss, Mar. 11

March 11, 2022

Dear Elsmere Families,

It was another exciting week at Elsmere. The energy in the building was buzzing with several fun projects and fun learning activities across the classrooms. Our photos this week provide a glimpse into this – newer photos near the bottom.

A highlight of the week was the virtual visit with author Mac Barnett. He was very engaging with stories, book sharing and a great Q&A session. He started writing books in second grade and just never stopped! Mr. Barnett taught us a lot about how to put our ideas onto paper and how to really enjoy the books we read.  I think he was equally as tickled with the Elsmere audience. As a surprise greeting for Mr. Barnett, who wrote the book Moustache (along with 53 others) every student and staff member wore a fake moustache. Thank you to Mrs. Meyer for arranging this wonderful event and to our terrific PTA for sponsoring Mr. Barnett’s visit.

Our next THURSDAYS in MARCH School Spirit days are:

  • March 17 – St. Patrick’s Day – Wearing o’ the Green
  • March 24 – We Love Pets – wear animal prints, clothes with animal pictures, animal ears… anything to show your love of animals. I have an outfit that I can’t wait to wear! Our big bulletin board is already brimming with adorable photos of your pet cats, dogs, hamsters, some reptiles and even geese! Remember to submit your pet picture for our bulletin board. March 25 is the last day to send in any donations for the humane society.
  • April 1 (Friday) – Fashion Disaster Day – wear your most mismatched outfit to show how crazy we are about reading. This day is also our Gently Used Book Sale. Donations are being collected until Friday, March 25. Books will be 25 cents each and 5 for $1.00.

As you may have read, BC high school students are asking for your assistance in gathering items for Ukrainian refugees. Please see the list of requested items here.

Things are starting to open up at school! Many families may be wondering what their child’s “home away from home” actually looks like or want to see our big renovations in person. To this end, you are welcome to stop by for a brief walk through the school on

Monday, March 14,   Last names A-K -at 6:00-6:45,   Last names L-Z at 7:00-7:45.  Families will be able to peek into classrooms (but not walk through yet) and see the updates/changes  in our library, office and cafeteria. Please note that this is just an opportunity to see the building. If you can’t make it, no worries. We will have several more opportunities to be in the school this spring.

Finally, a gentle reminder to please use extreme caution when driving around the building at arrival and dismissal. This includes not passing school buses when their stop signs are out, even in the parking lot. Thank you!

Thank you for all you do. Have a delightful weekend!

Sincerely,
Kate
