Letter from Principal Kloss, Mar. 6

Filed in Archive by on March 6, 2020

Dear Elsmere Families,

March is shaping up to be a busy month at Elsmere

On Monday, we gathered as a school to celebrate Read Across America and Dr. Seuss’ birthday. After a special visit from the Cat in the Hat and Things 1 and 2, we enjoyed a fun book read by Thing 1 and a whole school Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) time. Thank you Mrs. Meyer and Mrs. Greenman for organizing this event.

Our grade 3 Jr. Environmental Club invites the Elsmere community to join the BCUEA in collecting gently used blankets, pet toys and other items for local pet shelters. A flyer about this went home last week. We have received many photos of your furry (or feathery, or scaly) friend for a display at our school. The club also invites all students to submit entries to a NYS Senate Earth Day on-line gallery run by our state Senator, Neil Breslin.

After school Enrichment classes began this week thanks to the many hours of work of Suzie Ko, Jenny Horn, Becky Ida, Mrs. Calaban, and all the parent volunteers. Students have loved the classes so far and are excited for the sessions yet to come.

Our local AAA is looking for student entries to their Traffic Safety Poster Contest.  This is a local contest so students have a great chance to be recognized. The deadline is 3/27.  Additional information is available on their website.

The Elsmere Bumble Bees rocked the BOU spelling bee thanks to efforts of Mrs. Mara, Mrs. Wright, Mrs. Sauer, Mr. Martelle and yours truly. We are grateful to the Elsmere PTA for sponsoring our team!

Discussions about our school district budget have begun. You can stay informed about these through the webpage or attending the meetings.

Please continue to check our online calendar for upcoming school events and district events. As always you can check our virtual backpack for forms about upcoming events

Have a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Kate Kloss
