Dear Elsmere Families,

It has been a wonderful week at Elsmere and the weather has cooperated so well for the kids to get outside and play every day!

Thanks to Katie Urban, Melissa Hurt, and Kara Gokey for helping coordinate Healthy Kids Week this past week.  From the recess activities lead by the YMCA staff to the pop-in yoga classes, it was a fun week.  Thanks to the students who shared their green smoothie recipes and especially to those who donated much needed toiletry items to the US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants in Albany.

On Wednesday, we were so fortunate to have author Grace Lin visit our school and talk to students about writing, the process of making a book, and her book, Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, which our entire school had the opportunity to read over the past month. Thanks to the PTA for sponsoring this event and to Mrs. Meyer and Mrs. Karmel for organizing.

Our spring concert this past Tuesday was a great success. Throughout the week, many parents told me how much they enjoyed our choir, band and orchestra. Thanks to the students and our teachers, Ms. Vitale, Mrs. VanVoris, and Mr. Pisanello for a job well done. I think the T-Rex stole the show!

If you are looking for a great Mother’s Day gift, the Grade 5 plant sale is taking place here at Elsmere today and Saturday. Stop by to buy a plant and support our fifth graders’ trip to Nature’s Classroom.

Happy Mother’s Day and enjoy the weekend!

Sincerely,

Andy Baker
