Letter from Interim Principal Andy Baker, Apr. 20

Filed in Elsmere by on April 20, 2018

Dear Elsmere Families,

Good afternoon everyone. Today we had numerous activities to celebrate Earth Day. With the support of PTA volunteers, teachers, and outside experts, students engaged in a number of activities to learn about the environment, and discover ways we can care for our precious earth.

In keeping with the Earth Day theme, the BC Green Team is sponsoring the “Litterless Lunch Challenge.” Next week, from Monday to Thursday, students are encouraged to eat lunch without creating garbage. This would happen by bringing in a lunch that may contain: a reusable lunch box, reusable food/drink containers, and reusable flatware. Students who buy lunch may participate by bringing in a reusable cloth napkin. Each day that students bring in a lunch with no garbage, they will be eligible to win a prize on Friday.

During the month of April, Elsmere School will be collecting food items to supplement the BC Backpack Program. Throughout the month, donations of non-perishable food items can be sent into school with your student. For a full list of possible items, and more information about the Backpack Program, go here.

Next week, the following events are taking place. Please continue to check the Elsmere website for more information on upcoming events.

  • CAPER – 6pm, April 24th in the Elsmere library
  • Kindergarten 101 – 6:30pm, April 26th at Slingerlands
  • Wacky Olympics – 6-8pm, April 27th HS Gym B

As our After School Enrichment Program winds down, I want to take a moment to thank Melissa Gold and the many PTA members, parent volunteers, and community presenters for providing such a rewarding experience for our students. Having seen many of the programs first hand, I can tell you that the children thoroughly enjoyed the workshops!

In conclusion, I want to congratulate all the students, parents and teachers on a successful and amazing lip sync last night – it was easily one of the highlights of the year!

Sincerely,

Andy Baker
