hearts on bulletin board

Dear Elsmere Families,

I can’t believe we are at the February recess already! I want to wish you all a safe, happy, and fun-filled vacation week.

This week, I want to highlight our classroom “Buddies” program here at Elsmere. Each of our intermediate classes works with a primary class to engage in a variety of activities throughout the year. Some examples include peer editing, project-based activities, and reading together. The benefits go both ways: the children provide a model of responsibility, respect and learning for each other. Classes also get together in other formats, including the “heroes” program involving 5th graders working with our intermediate intensive skills class. The kids love this part of their day!

For the month of February, our bulletin board in the main hallway is devoted to recognizing our Buddies program. Each student wrote something nice about their buddy on a cut out paper heart. There are also hearts recognizing the great qualities of our teachers and staff. I have included a picture with the weekly letter so you can see what it looks like. Thank you to our bulletin board committee members for creating this terrific display!

On Friday, March 2nd, we will have an assembly to recognize Dr. Seuss’s birthday and Read Across America Day where the children will all read together as a school community. Students are invited to wear a hat of their choice that day to celebrate this occasion.

Thanks and have a great February recess!

Sincerely,

Andy Baker
